Terms of Service
Last updated: June 4, 2026
1. Agreement
By installing or using TrueTag (the "Service"), you (the merchant) agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, do not install the app. We may update these terms; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
2. What the Service does
TrueTag assigns a unique serial number and QR code to each unit you sell, provides a public page where your customers can verify that a product is genuine and check its warranty status, and gives you a merchant dashboard to manage serialized products, warranty templates, and customer warranty registrations. Serial numbers are generated automatically when an order is fulfilled, using the order and product data your store makes available under the scopes you approved at install.
3. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the warranty terms, coverage periods, and product information you configure in the app and present to your customers.
- You confirm you have a lawful basis to contact any customer who registers a warranty through the app (e.g. transactional follow-up about their warranty).
- You will comply with all applicable consumer-protection, warranty, and privacy laws in your jurisdiction and your customers'.
- You will not use the Service to misrepresent products, deceive customers, or for any unlawful purpose.
4. Plans, billing, and trials
- Pricing is shown in the app at the time of upgrade. Paid plans are billed monthly through Shopify's Billing API and appear on your Shopify invoice.
- Free trials, where offered, convert into paid subscriptions automatically unless cancelled before the trial ends.
- You can cancel any time from inside the app or by uninstalling it. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not pro-rate refunds for partial months.
5. Fair use of the monthly serialization allowance
Each plan includes a monthly allowance of units serialized: 50 (Free), 1,000 (Growth), and 10,000 (Pro). The allowance resets on the first day of each calendar month.
- When you reach your allowance for the current month, the app automatically pauses new automatic serialization for your store and recommends upgrading to the next tier. Serialization resumes on the 1st of the following month, or immediately if you upgrade.
- Your account will notbe auto-charged at a higher tier without your explicit upgrade in-app. We never raise the price you pay without your say-so, and we do not bill overage charges — reaching the cap means "pause and resume next month or upgrade", not "keep serializing and surprise-bill you".
- Allowances assume normal usage — serializing units for genuine orders. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that abuse the Service or attempt to circumvent plan limits.
6. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not promise uninterrupted service. Serialization and the public verify page may be delayed or temporarily unavailable due to outages at Shopify, our hosting provider, our database provider, or our email provider. We are not liable for missed or delayed serialization caused by upstream provider outages.
7. Data & privacy
Our handling of merchant and customer data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms.
8. Termination
You may uninstall the app from your Shopify admin at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are fraudulent, or expose us to legal risk. Upon uninstall, your data will be deleted in line with the retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimer & limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. TrueTag is a tool for tracking authenticity and warranty status; it does not itself guarantee that any product is genuine — that determination rests on the serial records you maintain. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or lost-profit damages.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
